Marketing as a function seeks to be a catalyst that can improve the bottom line. You invest in spending money with a view that this will eventually come back and add to the business ability to derive revenue. One thing we should never forget is that revenue happens at the point of customers buying your product or service, and sales is that part of marketing that allows this to happen.
Some organizations have sales team that function as a separate division and relies on Marketing, however, for you to realize the best relationship with the two, sales and Marketing should ultimately be working together in solving business challenges. I am of the view that the one can never function without the other, and they actually need each other to create the required impact on revenue.
Practical ways for the two to get married;
· The sales team will need to be taken through your Marketing strategy and give the required input in order for them to be co-implementer on the overall strategy.
· Create internal alignment with your sales and marketing teams, be rooted in inclusivity when doing work.
· Marriage works when there is commitment, commit to each other and speak with one voice.
