This morning, I found myself going through the pages of Good to great by Jim Collins and he speaks about how we need to have an approach like a hedgehog and not like the fox. The hedgehog knows what they are good at, and they keep doing it well in a simple way.
This is at the most times a reality for us marketers. We are always in pursuit of an idea, a good idea that will make us stand out and dominate our segments and maximize on our customer objectives. Each year, brands come out with a different message, and look for different ways to sell whereas at times we need to stick to our strengths, an idea and make sure that we drive this home fully.
In order to continue to do our best brand work, we need to continually seek simplicity in terms of making the ideas simple enough for our teams to feel that it is something that is achievable. So next time that strategy document feels like it is not simple and straightforward, strip it down and make it simple.
