There will always be something topical when it comes to content, either there is something trending that is positive, or just something that shocks South Africa.
The thing to always take note of is that as brand builders, we do not have to take part in all the conversations especially when we do not have a clear digital framework around conversations. using conversations as a way to grow the appeal of your content is not a new way of doing things, its just that there are rules and principles to this thing that we all need to respect.
If you do want to engage in conversations that are trending, the following will need to be in place;
an understanding on your framework for getting involved in topical issues
speed within your team in terms of how you comment on the matters.
Clear tone that allows you to participate without damaging any goodwill that you brand currently has with its audience.

This week, without doubt we never thought that cheese cake would trend or be topical the way it has. I have seen something from Nandos already on mains and sides, with checkers 60 showcasing ingredients for a cheese cake. In the topical game, speed and a sense of humour is absolutely critical. To the marketer or entrepreneur, if your brand does not have speed or a sense of humour, you have no business commenting about cheese cake! The most you can do, around this topic, is just to eat it.
